2012 Custom Plectrum Banjo
I built this banjo for my good friend Rob Wright in AZ back in 2012.
I had some great parts lying around and found theme I wanted to try out on it.
The neck was made by Jim Stull back in the 1990s.
A "Gibson style" PB6, with the checkerboard binding.
I used a deep wall maple resonator, not unlike that of the Vega Co.'s "Vegavox"
I had a luthier in the south make me some checkerboard binding to use on it.
It is a close match to what Stull used but not exactly the same.
Unlike the Vox, this banjo is not top tension.
I did the finish is an "Argentine Gray" sunburst that is similar to original Gibson style 6 finish
The tension hoop bears onto the head, and he head onto the Gibson style flange plate.
The hooks are tensioned by a Gibson style tube, that is fitted to the rim in the style of earlier Gibson and also Trujo (by Gibson) banjos
It is built around a 3/4" x 11" multi-ply rim with a JLS 12 prewar style flathead tone ring
Dual coordinator rods.
The engraved hardware was done by master engraver Ron Raymer, Raytown MO.
Plating was done by ACME plating in CO.
Tailpiece is a finger style, created and developed by Dan Goodrich, called the "Tension Lock"
A very precise mechanism.
Geared tuners with MOP buttons
Comes in a TKL case
Rob played this banjo for years and it still has many left in it.
The finish on the resonator back is "Checking", as it was in a dry climate and out in venues, not kept always climate controlled.
Thanks for looking, sharing and inquiring
