COLLECTOR LEVEL INSTRUMENT

WASHBURN
Model 422
(12" head)
Ser# 476
CIRCA 1890s

More info from a Bona Fide Washburn Devotee:
Thanks Skip

The number on the dowel is definitely
the serial number, and suggests a date of early 1893.
The model is without question  a 421 or 422
(11"rim is 421, 12" is 422)

The highest grade of this model is the 432, with fancy ivory pegs(not casein)
Heel carving,and gold plating
Inlays are slightly more engraved

Fresh setup on Aquila Red's

Instrument plays well, with a nice tone very similar to pure Gut strings
It has plenty of stridency up by the bridge and is warm up by the neck
