Bacon and Day Silverbell
Personal instrument and creation of
Henry Lea

Today Banjohaven was graced with the presence Barbara(and hubby Greg),who just happens to be the daughter of
Master Luthier, the late great Mr.Henry Lea.
She was nice enough to bring by one of Henry's personal banjos with her,a beautiful BD Silver Bell.

I felt very special indeed, being allowed to play on this banjo.
For you who do not know of Henry, he was one of the best banjo luthiers in modern time.
Renee Karnes, in CA, apprenticed under him,

and carried the business forward after Henry passed away, and she has become one of, if not the greatest banjo builder of our time.
Henry's work will stand the test of time, and he is presently under consideration for induction into the Banjo Hall of Fame, in Guthrie OK.

I am very spritual when it comes to my banjos, and it was nice to have Henry's spirit in my shop, to intermingle with Chas.A and Elmer Stromberg, John Di Pietro, and My Grandfather Frank Mondello, all who have contributed much to the banjo world.

This banjo has a sweet , but powerful tone, and was a pleasure to play on.
Exquisite Carving,and Tastefully inlaid.

It isnt very often that I get a pic of me taken, but what better time!
I really enjoyed just playing a few tunes for Barb, ans adding one missing resonator screw to the "Bell"

Although Barb figures that she will never take on the restoration projects, she IS going to take some lessons, and will be able to play a few tunes soon.
I mean, with a banjo like that around....would'nt you?
Myself, and her husband,Greg, have "Made a pact, to keep her on Track", because we all need to do our part to keep the banjo alive, and Barb has the genetics to do so.

At any rate, I want to thank them both for sharing this time with me,and I wanted to share it with you.

She's gaining "speed!"

Last Saturday, she met Pace (Ed Griffin) in the flesh, at the Ovilla fair.  Picture attached.  With us is our good friend  "Joe"

And now, with some lessons from Scott Whitfield, and some "genetic" help from Henry, We will be adding yet another to our ranks!

And away we go!!!!!!!!

Barb and Scott, on her first lesson!
