Tom Dutart's
Bacon and Day Silver Bell#3
WORKPAGE

Full resto, with plating
INITIAL PICS

Peghead divoted on the tip
Old Planets are a little scratchy, normal, I'll try to lube them

I love you Big Tom, even if you do wear your resonator upside down :)

Banjo has older refinish, the color was changed to a vintage amber when it was done

I will weld that bullet hole with my plastic welder, if I can just find some plastic rods!

Vanity inlay at 18 :)

We will set aside th original armrest and do one up with Tommys name on it.

Doo-tart.........thats the ticket

Oettinger is missing 1 adj screw
Flange is missing a thumbscrew
I got em

Dowel appears to be replaced, the stampings are not quite right, and it has no Bacon Banjo Co brand on it

Peghead inlay OK, binding OK

No sticker on the inside, may have been iced on older refinish
Flange is very rough, need to solder some on the retention lugs

Inside perfed tone ring, and all rim hardware is orig

All ready to head to Paul and Steve for buffing/plating and a new engraved armrest

The prior refinisher removed quite o bit of wood, and I will not.
So full strength Jasco Methyl Choride Party it is.

And I see now by the style of lifting it is a single stage Urethane of some variant, that would never sand off anyway.

I will do the fretwork before I add new stain and finish

Stain is Honey Amber as before, using alcohol and analin dye

First coats of clear

All done, curing while plating is away.  Due back any day now
Its in the 90s in my shop in the day, 70s at night, it will get plenty hard ;)

Re-Assembly

Plating returned from Paul and Steve, and now she is once again Bright and shiny....nice job boys.

And a nice job of packing, I like my banjo parts in "Nickel bags" :)

I'll re-use Toms old 5 star head, it has no pull on the sides and is in good shape.
Unless he wants another..I'll at least set it up with this.

Leveling frets, there is plenty of meat to do this, no need to charge Tom for that....this time :)

After re crowning, the ceramic polish wheel

Now one thing I cant stand is old MOP buttons that are filthy (Peggie), and I always clean them, then buff them on my big buffer.

Thats..the look they were born with.

Setup on one of Jim Farquhar's Taga nut inserted 3 footed bridge, Bacon spaced.
No better bridge for a BD I say.
Need a Custom bridge?
